Tim and Denis covered the Sydenhams Wessex League match at The Spec-Savers County Ground Saturday afternoon for Hamworthy vs Blackfield & Langley which saw the Hammers march on at the top of the table with win number 12, 50th league goal, a clean sheet and a noisy 178 crowd on a cold wet day.
Skipper Lee Francis opened the scoring on 20 minutes following a midfield battle, 15 minutes late Connor Cocklin gets in on the action followed quickly with his 2nd of the afternoon in the 40th minute to give the Hammers a deserved half-time lead, although the Watersiders, who requested a return to the Wessex League from the Southern League despite not being in a relegation position, could have had a couple if luck had been on their side.
A sloppy own goal by Jim Orvis after 49 minutes put the Hammers onto 4 goals, it was a bit of a wait for goal number 5 which came from MattyNeale on 74 minutes who added another in the 89th minute, these two goals were split by Baily Row split who grabbed a deserved goal on 77 minutes. Matty Neales 89th minute goal was the Hammers 50th in the Wessex League so far this season.
The Watersiders never gave u,p even after they watched Ali Zintany receive a red card and his marching orders in the 61st minute, the referee, Adam Hillier who had a good game in charge, this was his only booking, spoke at length with the official on the far side, for they battled hard but to no avail. Hammers sit top still, played 14, won 12, drawn 1 and lost 1, for a total of 37 points, 50 goals for and only 9 against tells a story, can anyone catch them this season?
Next at the County Ground on Tuesday 29th December is a visit from the New Forest of Bashley who sit in 10th place, after playing 12 games they are on 18 points, join Tim and Warren from 7.15 pm, but for now, RadioSportsLive would like to wish all our listeners a Merry Christmas and make the best of it as safely as you can, Merry Christmas and thank you for your fantastic support.
